Music icon Celine Dion embarks on her highly anticipated Celine Dion comeback this weekend in Paris. She will perform her first full concert in six years, thrilling thousands of devoted fans.

The celebrated singer, 58, endured a challenging battle with Stiff Person Syndrome. This rare autoimmune disorder caused severe muscle stiffness and agonizing spasms, even leading to broken ribs. The illness forced her to cancel shows.

Approximately 30,000 fans are expected at the Plenitude Arena, just outside Paris. This sold-out opening night kicks off her 26-date run in the French capital. Many supporters made a pilgrimage a day early, eager to soak up the atmosphere.

Chloe Rydquist, who travelled from London with her wife Katy, called Dion a legend. “We needed to be there for the first night,” she explained. The couple paid around £1,500 for tickets, but deemed the experience invaluable.

“It’s going to be very emotional for everyone,” Katy Rydquist added. They had worried if Dion would ever return to the stage. Therefore, they felt compelled to attend.

Dion has sold approximately 260 million albums across her four-decade career. Her hits include “My Heart Will Go On” and “Because You Loved Me”. She begins with 16 sold-out shows in September and October. Later, she will return for another 10 dates next May.

Fans without tickets have found other ways to celebrate. Dion often greets admirers outside her Royal Monceau hotel, sometimes singing and dancing with them. Paris itself has hosted costume contests, karaoke parties, and tribute cruises on the Seine.

On Friday, hundreds gathered for a free singalong in the 19th district. They swayed and sang along to Dion’s famous tunes. Eva Ingelaere, 24, attended after missing out on concert tickets. “I might as well have a massive karaoke session,” she stated.

This Celine Dion comeback caps a remarkable journey back to the spotlight after years of health battles. In December 2022, Dion revealed her diagnosis. She described feeling as though she was being strangled.

However, Dion remained determined to perform again. She hinted at her return during the 2024 Paris Olympics opening. She made a surprise appearance on the Eiffel Tower, singing Edith Piaf’s “Hymn to Love”.

Two years ago, Dion articulated her ambitions on NBC. “I’m going to come onstage because I’m ready,” she declared. “My vocal cords will not scare me.” Now, her steadfast promise is finally being fulfilled.
